Summer of Learning - Part Six

Forms and Formats of
Self-Directed Learning

It has been a busy summer so far, and I am feeling so inspired by the last few months of professional development and collaboration with colleagues. I marvel at the variety of formats in which I learned. Years ago, our professional development was a sit-and-get format but when we take an active role in our own learning we find that learning adventures come in many forms.

This is the last of my Summer of Learning blog posts. It has been great to reflect on how I learn in so many different ways. I appreciate collaborating with many colleagues along the way. Thank you to all the people with whom I connect as I learn and grow.

I have learned so much from following twitter conversations and finding new colleagues to follow. So often, I find a tweet that aligns with my own beliefs. Often, I read a tweet that makes me think and reflect. Often, I will follow a link to a great article or resource.

I use Tweet Deck to organize my tweet reading.  If you are on Twitter, you know that you can participate in so many Twitter Chats each day. These are usually scheduled on a date and time and a group of people gather to discuss a topic.

Here are some twitter groups that I follow:

#cyberPD, #ohedchat,#cyberPD, #leadupchat, #titletalk, #ohprinchat, #SOL16, #IMWAYR, #nerdybookclub

#SLTRead is the group of people who are having conversations about our new book. (Still Learning to Read, Second Edition by Franki Sibberson and Karen Szymusiak)

I follow a number of blogs. It's important to find the ones that you enjoy reading and that inspire you. I mention just two of them here because I follow hundreds of blogs. I organize and read these blogs on Feedly.

There are many You Tube channels to follow. Just for fun and lots of smiles I would recommend the Emily Arrow channel. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.
